Babies jumping for joy!

Praise the Lord, we are 1/4 of the way through this pregnancy!

Yesterday I had my first appointment with the OB, and while I have mixed reactions to his approach to twin births, I was very glad for two unforgettable things that happened at the appointment.

First, I heard one of the babies' heartbeats! It was amazing - like a tiny little horse galloping inside. It is so surreal, because other than the occasional bout of fatigue or a queasy stomach, I feel very normal. I was thrilled for evidence that the babies are still growing strong in there!

Then, the doctor came in and after we chatted awhile, he decided to do an ultrasound because they could only pick up one heartbeat on the doppler. Yay - another chance to see the babies!

He placed the wand on my stomach, and immediately two perfect little babies flashed on the screen. What an amazing amount of growth since the 8-week ultrasound. And then the CUTEST thing: the top baby started jumping! It would squat down on the bottom of the amniotic sac, and then shoot up, arms and legs flailing and little tiny body flying. Over and over, like it was saying, "watch, Mom, watch - look what I can do!" The bottom baby (which was very cute, too) was a bit more relaxed, waving its arms and legs around but not really needing to show off. Could that be a hint at their personalities?

Surfer was at work and I wish he could have seen his little ones jump around; but I'm so glad that my mom was able to come to the appointment with me... and what a bonus that she got to see the babies, too, with an unexpected peek!
